Le Big
I love good socks. Nice looking ones, of great quality.
I’m afraid I got Courtney hooked on good socks as well, after I introduced her to Falke last year…
Well, Court, I recently discovered another really great kiddie’s sock brand: Le Big. Very good quality, I must say. And a great basic collection with gorgeous colours, not to mention seasonal collections that are really funky! My daughter LOVES her Le Big socks, as they have dots, little balls, little bows or come with flower brooches — so cool! You should see her walking around with them, as if she’s the queen!
Nice to know is that all cotton used at Le Big is organic, and they are part of the Made-By label — a label on fashion brands that works on sustainability.
If you’re in the Netherlands, you can order Le Big socks from their web shop. If you’re international it’s best to e-mail them for retail information until their international web-shop goes live later this year…

Millino
Having spent a month in the German speaking part of Italy, I have been surrounded by many things that are not easily available in Milan. Among those were the famous Falke Catspads (that I bought for the whole family, parents included), the most incredible bread that would make Esther (and dutch people in general) happy, and loads of German wooden toys.
I bought Millino for my daughter, and I picked him out of many other rattle-like toys not only because of his very cute face but also because of the lovely sound it makes when you hold it from one end and you shake it. It’s a soft wooden “clickety-click” (a bit like a castanette) that both my kids loved immediately!

Strumpfhosen…
In Dutch, thick, knitted tights are called a ‘maillot’. In French, a ‘maillot (de bain)’ is a swim suit. To add to the confusion, in Dutch, tights of the thin sort are called ‘panties’. (And a panty is called a ’slipje’).
I’m glad the Germans decided not to participate with all this nonsense and just call their tights ’strumpfhosen’. What a great word, don’t you think? Strumpfhosen, strumphosen… it almost sounds like the beginning of a fairytale!
Courtney already wrote about the great Falke Catspads (those fantastic in-house anti-slip socks), but I thought I had to tell you about these supercute Falke tights my daughter has been wearing this winter!
They come in a variety of beautiful colours with a classic argyle at the side. As with everything German, the quality is superb. Very cute with a simple, plain T-shirt and a pinafore dress! (more…)
Slipper/socks
Esther turned me on to Falke back in September when we went on a search for the perfect wool tights and black leggings. We found them at Fenwick on Bond Street, and it was here that my obsession with Falke began. Esther also convinced me to buy a few pairs of Falke socks, and I loved them so much I went back and bought a bunch for my husband as well. (Now we are both huge “Falke followers”)!!
Falke makes socks for kids too! Short and long, solid or stripes, cotton or wool- there are loads of options, and the quality is superb. One of my favorites are the Catspads. They are a slipper/sock with a non-slip sole. They are cute and cozy, and perfect for these cold winter mornings. (And now that my 8-month old is walking, they are great for keeping him from sliding around on the wood floors)!
